The Drake Hotel has been a favourite of mine since the days I lived in Chicago. It’s a timeless classic with its impressive architecture, its sweeping staircase, and its rich furnishings and dark woods. It was always a rare treat to come in for a cocktail or two after the Harley was safely stabled for the night. Always savoured. Never taken for granted.

And I still think of it as a treat to this day.
The Coq D’Or is quietly secluded on the ground floor, a pleasant hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Michigan Avenue. Sleek Cocktails, crafty ales and cool beer are plentiful, with live music and simple dining classics also on the menu.

As you’d expect of a classic american hotel, the bar serves a classic Old Fashioned.
Straight rye muddled with brown sugar and bitters, topped with a zesty orange peel garnish. Just the right amount of ice. No messing about here.
Simple. Effective. Refreshing.

This is classic done right.
Nothing fancy. Due care and attention given to every detail.
Perfect!
